China: VR, AR & Multimedia: Key Attractions for Lionsgate Entertainment World Announced

As part of the new Novotown tourism and entertainment hub that is currently under development on the Chinese island of Hengqin (Guangdong province), the film-based Lionsgate Entertainment World indoor park is scheduled to open this summer (cf. our report in EAP 3/19). Consultant and future operator of the leisure complex is Australia’s Village Roadshow Theme Parks (VRTP), which recently revealed the park’s future key attractions, based on modern technologies such as VR, AR and multimedia.

“The Twilight Saga – Bella’s Journey” (ride system: ETF Rides) and “The Twilight Saga – Midnight Ride” will be the two main attractions in the “Twilight” theme area. The latter promises a fast, virtual motorcycle race with Jacob (one of the movie’s main characters) and its wolf pack. The ride system will be provided by Canadian supplier CAVU Designwerks. Another theme area dedicated to the film IP “The Divergent Series” will also feature two attractions: “Divergent – VR Fear Simulator”, implemented by Framestore (media content) in partnership with Boulder Games; and “Divergent – The Chasm Challenge Course”, a multifaceted climbing structure by Walltopia.

In the “Gods of Egypt” theme area, visitors will be able to experience a thrilling VR rollercoaster ride dubbed “Gods of Egypt – Battle for Eternity” from German manufacturer Mack Rides. The 3D motion simulator “The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Flight Rebel Escape” will be implemented by CAVU and with “Escape Plan – Prision Break”, Lionsgate Entertainment World will also offer a technology-based escape room adventure. The entire indoor park was designed by California’s Thinkwell Group. (eap)
