Germany: “The Smurf Experience“ Comes to Oberhausen

From 21 March 2020, the new EXPOHALLE in Oberhausen/Germany, which is part of the Centro shopping mall complex, will host the “The Smurf Experience“ immersive exhibition dedicated to the life and the adventures of the small blue comic figures. Belgian event and communication company Cecoforma created the traveling exhibition, which is currently touring through Europe (after Brussels and Paris, Oberhausen will be the third location. On a surface of 1,500 square metres the exhibition will feature numerous interactive stations with modern technologies such as Kinect, AR, 180 degree video projections and holograms, which will introduce the visitors to the world of the smurfs. Alongside the trail, there will be references to the sustainability goals of the United Nations, which the Smurfs are representatives for – an educational element of the exhibition. The new EXPOHALLE is operated by Explorado Group, which also manages the Explorado kids museum in Duisburg and the Odysseum in Cologne (Germany). It was built by transforming the former F&B spaces into an events and exhibition hall, in order to expand the Centro’s leisure and entertainment offerings.  

“With the new EXPOHALLE an attractive space for exciting and creative types of events was created. We are happy to start with ‘The Smurf Experience‘ family highlight […],“ said Marcus Remark, Center Manager of Centro, which is owed by French real estate company Unibail-Rodamco and Canadian pension fund Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. The exhibition in Oberhausen will be open to visitors until 28 February 2021. (eap)
