USA: Disney’s Hollywood Studios Celebrate Opening of First “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway“ Ride Through Attraction

Yesterday saw the opening of the first ever Mickey Mouse-themed ride thorugh attraction at a Disney theme park. “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway“, the new attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resorts (Orlando FL), offers visitors a journey through the colorful world of Disney’s original character Mickey, who first appeared on screen in 1928 as a whistling boat captain in the “Steamboat Willie“ cartoon series. Walt Disney Imagineering created a detailed ride equipped with modern technologies such as audio-animatronic figures, animated media, project-mapping and a trackless ride system. The attraction also features a new soundtrack, which was especially produced for the ride.

Before visitors can board the “Runaway Railway“ they are introduced into the story by a short movie shown on screen. During the ride experience, the wagons seperate from the train and apparently move forward by themselves, while being integrated into the storyline. Visitors will experience several adventurous scenes as they stampede through the Wild West, escape a tornado and an exploding volcano, visit a carnival and dive over a waterfall. Besides Mickey and Minnie, several other beloved Disney characters such as “Donald Duck“, “Goofy“ and “Pluto“ are part of the experience. “[…] We are inviting our guests into a Mickey and Minnie cartoon. There are endless possibilities – anything can happen! […],“ comments Charita Carter, Senior Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering. (eap)
