USA: Herschend Entertainment Takes Over Operation of Kentucky Kingdom & Hurricane Bay

The Atlanta, Georgia-based operator group Herschend Family Entertainment, whose park portfolio includes Dollywood, Silver Dollar City and the Newport Aquarium, among other venues, recently announced that they became majority partner and new operator of Kentucky Kingdom and its associated water park Hurricane Bay. “After opening Newport Aquarium in 2008, we’ve been actively seeking an opportunity to bring even more entertainment to the great state of Kentucky and that dream begins today. We’re honored to be welcomed into the beautiful and historic city of Louisville, and thrilled to build upon the exceptional 25-year legacy of Kentucky Kingdom,” says Andrew Wexler, CEO of Herschend Entertainment.

“We are pleased to turn the park over to a new generation of leadership. Herschend is an outstanding operator, who will undoubtedly take Kentucky Kingdom & Hurricane Bay to the next level. We expect their involvement will add greatly to the Commonwealth’s thriving tourism industry,” comments Ed Hart, founder and CEO of the park, which was established in 1987.

Craig Ross, who served as president of Dollywood in the past decade, takes over as Kentucky Kingdom’s interim general manager. “This is an exciting moment, and I am so honored to work alongside the community, our season pass holders, and our valued guests in building a bright future for this beloved park. We strongly believe in using guest and community input to create amazing experiences […],” he says.

The strategic plan for Kentucky Kingdom includes hosting family-friendly seasonal and themed events and festivals, enhancing product and guest experiences, expanding the season and building a relationship with state and local tourism partners. (eap)
