Germany: New ZooExpress at Rostock Zoo Offers Barrier-Free Tour

From now on, the new “ZooExpress” offers visitors with limited mobility, for example persons in wheelchairs, the opportunity to experience Rostock Zoo during a round trip. In addition, the new electric vehicle, which was supplied by the Polish company MELEX, can also be used as a shuttle. “We are delighted with the new ZooExpress. Especially for guests who are not able to walk very far, it is always a great pleasure to be on the ZooExpress at a slow speed on the zoo grounds. Therefore, we are very grateful for the financial support from the state strategy fund,” says Mirko Strätz, chairman of the Rostock Zoo Society.

The new electric vehicle replaces an old vehicle. Udo Nagel, director of Rostock Zoo, comments: “Our service offer with the modern and inviting ZooExpress has long become a flagship for fun and enjoyment of life at any age in our zoo.” The ZooExpress offers seating for one driver, one wheelchair and three more passengers.

The earnings from the ZooExpress will be used for conservation projects of the Zoo Society at Rostock Zoo, and also for the maintenance of the vehicles. (eap)
