Europa-Park Plans to Create New Space Themed Area
(eap) Germany’s Europa-Park in Rust wants to dedicate a large themed area to space in the future and, after a complete technical overhaul, make its 1997 spinning roller coaster “Euro-Mir” the main attraction, park owner Roland Mack told the dpa. The project may be realized in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), with which Mack says they are already in talks. The new area, which will include other rides in addition to the refurbished roller coaster, is expected to be completed in 2028. In addition to the technical overhaul of the Mack Rides roller coaster, which will be dismantled and rebuilt specifically for this purpose, the attraction will also be given a new name – although this has not yet been decided. In the future, the roller coaster will offer an experience for the whole family. Until now, Euro-Mir has been part of the park’s Russian theme area, which is to be reduced in size as part of the renovation and redesign measures. However, Roland Mack emphasized that the historic part of the Russian area will not be dispensed with in the future. After all, the park does not want to let politics and crises dictate its agenda.
This year, Europa-Park celebrated its 50th anniversary (see EAP 2/2025). In terms of visitor numbers for the current 2025/26 financial year, which runs until the end of March, Europa-Park expects an increase of two to three percent, which means that visitor numbers are likely to exceed six million once again. A new Monaco-themed area is planned for Europa-Park next year. Our readers will be able to find out more about the seasonal results for this and other European amusement parks in EAP issue 2/2026. ■
