China: Hong Kong Disneyland Set for Multi-Year Transformation

Hong Kong Disneyland, which opened its doors for visitors in 2005, this week presented a comprehensive development plan for its park area to be realized from 2018 through 2023. The plans include new themed areas, spectacular attractions and additional entertainment offers.

As a highlight, Disney points out two new immersive worlds around the “Frozen” and Marvel franchises. Furthermore, the centerpiece of the park and the gateway to “Fantasyland” – the castle – will also be transformed to create new entertainment offers for guests. The “Iron Man” attraction that was scheduled to open this year (c.f. EAP news from August 18th, 2015) will be inaugurated on January 11th, 2017. In addition, guests can already look forward to a new thrill attraction, on which the park has not yet disclosed any further details. A new “Adventureland Show Place” will invite guests to “Moana’s Village Festival” through a series of daytime entertainment offerings anchored around a lively stage show in an interactive environment.

HKDL’s two shareholders – The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong Government – have agreed on the development plans, subject to funding approval by the company’s board of directors and Hong Kong’s Legislative Council for their respective share of investment. (eap)
