China: Spectacular Multimedia Shows at Shanghai’s Happy Valley

The Chinese Happy Valley theme park in Shanghai, operated by OCT Group, invites its guests to enjoy a new exceptional multimedia show at its new landmark attraction “Lake of Illusions”. The new attraction consists of a tower located in a large water basin, dominating its site and leaning skyward at an angle. While it is conceived as an inspirational sculpture during the day, it transforms into a multimedia spectacle by night with light and sound effects, video projections, water and dazzling effects.

The French company ECA2, which is specialized in state-of-the-art multimedia technology, has designed the show and was also responsible for the production in cooperation with OCT. “To match the grand scale of its context in Happy Valley, Lake of Illusions was conceived to stand out in every dimension. It’s a true 360° icon that dominates its setting and intrigues the park’s visitors,” said Jean-Christophe Canizares, Chairman and CEO of ECA2. Artistically controlled by cutting-edge technology, the effects change and merge in every dimension: reaching higher, wider and deeper through different planes. The multimedia show is a poetic tale inspired by China’s storytelling traditions, playfully reworked to enthrall the audiences. To make “Lake of Illusions” special, ECA2 spent one year in research and development to develop a unique new effect called Spiro screen®. This innovative system uses rotating water jets to produce a giant spectral surface where video, light and laser images can be viewed in a new way. Furthermore, pixel mapping machines have been installed in the icon to create a sense of movement along with moving water jets, lights, mist, flames, lasers and video projection. Eleven sources of sound strategically placed around the site complete the immersive experience. (eap)
