(eap) Construction work is underway on a new combined swimming pool on the Rhine promenade in Wesel (Germany). In addition to school and club swimming, this will include a wide range of courses and attractions for the whole family. The outdoor pool on the Rhine, which has been in existence since 1939, will be retained in its entirety with its sports and toddler pools and will be supplemented by the indoor pool with a year-round offering. There, bathers will find a 25-metre sports pool with diving boards, an adventure pool, a teaching pool and a training pool with a lifting floor. In addition, a toddlers’ area with climbing and sliding options and a slide tower with an 80-metre Aquarena tube slide promise fun for young visitors. Furthermore, there will be a gastronomy area for refreshments.

In addition to the indoor pool, a sauna facility with adjoining gastronomy and a wellness area are also being built. This will include a sauna garden, five sauna cabins and various relaxation areas. Two of the sauna cabins will be equipped with panoramic windows and will thus offer a special view of the Rhine. The companies Constrata (project management), geising + böker (object planner), Planungsgruppe (building services), Wiebold Landschaftsarchitektur (outdoor area planning) and Ingenieurbüro Grage (structural engineering) are involved in the construction, which was started in 2021. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated at the beginning of August last year. The project is expected to be completed in the course of this summer. The construction site can be followed live on the website of Städtische Bäder Wesel, which is going to operate the combined pool. ■
