European Waterpark Association Takes a Clear Position in the Discussion about Pool Closures

The European Waterpark Association e.V. (EWA) has collected the latest facts on the current situation of leisure pools and spas in the energy crisis. In a position paper that has just been published, the European association of waterparks, adventure pools and thermal spas takes a clear position on the basis of these facts in the discussion about possible pool closures due to rising energy prices and possible bottlenecks. The EWA is clearly in favour of leaving the decision on the continuation of regular operations, on a possible reduction of the range of services or even on the closure of parts of the facilities or complete pool operations to the pool operators themselves. They are in the best position to judge at what point in time which measures make sense and are necessary – for economic reasons as well as from the point of view of their guests.

“We are not only committed to leisure pools and spas, but to all public pools, which are of essential importance for health care and social interaction. Phased plans that pit one type of pool against another are clearly the wrong signal to send to politicians. Our demand: public baths must be allowed to remain open, other decisions must be left to the respective operators and must not be imposed ‘from above’!”.
