Hong Kong: Michael Moriarty Appointed New Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort

As of 27 December this year, Michael Moriarty will take over as new Managing Director of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL), succeeding Stephanie Young, who assumes the role as President of Consumer Products, Games and Publishing for Walt Disney Parks, Experiences and Products in December. Most recently, Moriarty has been serving as Managing Director Far East and Senior Vice President of Global Sourcing at Hong Kong-based board game manufacturer Hasbro. Before that, he held several leadership positions during his 14 years at The Walt Disney Company, including roles at The Walt Disney World Resort (Orlando, USA), Disney Imagineering and HKDL, where he served as Chief Financial Officer from 2009 to 2012.

Jill Estario, President and Managing Director of Disney Parks International, comments: “This appointment comes at an exciting time as the resort launches its 15th anniversary celebration. With Michael’s extensive experience in finance, commercial strategy and operations, along with his knowledge of the Hong Kong market and relationships across Asia, the resort will continue to be well positioned to help drive the recovery of the tourism industry in Hong Kong.”

Moriarty says: “I am pleased to be returning to the HKDL and work with the Resort team to build upon the strong foundation laid by Stephanie. This is an exciting time for HKDL with several new developments underway that underscore a commitment to Hong Kong and its people as we look to the future of this great city as a place where tourism will continue to thrive.”

One of the novelties that visitors will be able to discover from this month of November will be the completely renovated and redesigned Disney-typical fairytale castle, which in Hong Kong will receive the new name of “Castle of Magical Dreams“ and which is set to enchant park guests from November 21st. Thematically, the castle is inspired by 13 different Disney princesses and queens and will become the new central landmark of the resort. (eap)
