More German Theme Parks Reopen this Weekend
Following this month’s decision of most German federal states to permit the reopening of theme parks (cf. EAP news of 13 May 2020), the two largest theme parks located in North Rhine-Westphalia – Movie Park Germany and Phantasialand – welcome visitors again as of today. For both attraction sites, it is mandatory for guests to purchase their tickets online in advance, in order to avoid direct contact and the accumulation of people in the park entrance area. In the parks, guests have to observe the special hygiene and social distancing rules, which are communicated before and during the visit.
The Parques Reunidos-operated Movie Park Germany had planned to launch a number of novelties for guests in this season (cf. EAP News of 4 Mar 2020), most of which could not been completed due to travel restrictions and will thus see a later opening. However, visitors will be able to enjoy most of the park’s popular attractions; limitations of the park offer mainly refer to indoor attractions and shows. Similar regulations also apply at Phantasialand, the beloved theme park located in Brühl (near Cologne) and managed by Robert Löffelhardt. Here, visitors can already look forward to the opening of the new “Rookburgh” theme area and its signature attraction “F.L.Y.”, the world’s first Flying Launch Coaster from Dutch manufacturer Vekoma.
With excitement guests are also looking forward to today’s reopening of Europa-Park and Erlebnispark Tripsdrill, both located in the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, which will launch spectacular new attractions in the course of the season. In Saxony, Parques Reunidos’ BELANTIS theme park welcomes guests again as of today. In the neighboring state of Bavaria, the Playmobil FunPark, Allgäu Skyline Park, Freizeit-Land Geiselwind and LEGOLAND Deutschland are among the reopening attractions, starting their operations tomorrow.
The next issue of EAP Trade Magazine will feature a special on strategies, solutions and first experiences related to the operation of theme parks in times of Corona. (eap)
