Australia/UK: Modernised “Dreamworld Express” Trains with Nostalgic Charm Carry Guests at Dreamworld Park

Opened in December 1981, the “Dreamworld Express” at the Dreamworld theme park on Australia’s Gold Coast has carried millions of guests since its inauguration. Recently, it was time for an upgrade of the nostalgic train attraction. While the park renewed the “Central Station” christened station, the rails and the locomotives on its own, the British company Severn Lamb was commissioned to replace the carriages.

In order to maintain the previous look and configuration of the railway, the manufacturer supplied three units of its “Lincoln” type carriages whose design was adapted to integrate seamlessly with the existing locomotives hydraulic and electrical system architecture. The new, nostalgically designed carriages feature Severn Lamb’s latest chassis technology, running gear and safety features such as remote locking carriage doors, a modern PA and lighting system along with a CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) video surveillance system and the associated monitoring interfaces. The capacity of the renovated railway, which is now back in operation, has been increased to 36 passengers per carriage. Also, the carriages offer improved inclusion of wheelchair accessibility.
