Australia: Dreamworld Announces Multi-Million-Dollar Investment into New Attractions

Following the investment by the Dreamworld theme park in Australia, which belongs to the Ardent Leisure Group, in the new “Steel Taipan“ roller coaster from Mack Rides last year, the park‘s CEO Greg Yong has now announced new investments of over AUD 50 million in, among other things, new attractions and themed areas for the next two years.

A new family attraction will complement the park‘s entrance area as of mid-2023. This will be a Wave Swinger from the Italian company Preston & Barbieri. Next year‘s additions also include a new children‘s area called “Kenny & Belinda‘s Dreamland“, which will replace the current DreamWorks area. AUD 15 million will be invested in this project, which will include redesigned and relocated attractions as well as two new ones. These contain a kid-friendly “Wiggles Kids“ roller coaster by Zamperla. In addition, “Oceans Parade“ will be expanded to include a children‘s water play area, and the “Bumper Cars“ and “Pandamonium Thrill Ride“ attractions will be redesigned. “ABC KIDS“ and “The Wiggles World’s“ themed areas will also be redesigned in 2024 to create a new area called “Rivertown“ to match the nearby Murrissippi River. The existing “Vintage Cars“ facility will then become part of the themed area and be suitably revamped with new jungle-style cars. The biggest investment will be the new roller coaster “Jungle Rush!“ which will also find a place in Rivertown. This is going to be a family coaster from manufacturer Vekoma worth AUD 35 million. It includes an inclined turntable as well as twelve airtime hills and the possibility to ride forward and backward.

“It’s an exciting time to be in Queensland and this AUD 50 million recovery investment is a significant vote of confidence in the Gold Coast as Australia’s favourite visitor destination,“ said Queensland’s Tourism Minister, Stirling Hinchliffe. (eap)
