Austria: Swarovski Kristallwelten Present Carousel Designed by Jaime Hayon

For the gardens of Austria´s Swarovski Kristallwelten, Spanish designer Jaime Hayon recently designed a nostalgic carousel decorated with 15 million crystals, which are illuminated in warm light tones on twelve roof- and 16 wall-panels. The 6.5 meter high carousel provides room for up to 28 guests, who can take a seat on fantasy figures inspired by fairytales and traditions. In addition, there is a separate area for wheelchairs.

“The carousel awakens feelings of freedom and joy – it is a piece of art in motion and a place where fantasy runs its course. […] The people in this company are always willing to do everything possible to turn an idea into reality,” explains Jaime Hayon. After a first cooperation in 2017, the carousel is the artist´s second project for Swarovski. Carla Rumler, Cultural Director and Curator at Swarovski Kristallwelten, says: “[…] Jaime Hayon puts unbelievable elegance into his characters and leads guests into a fantasy world full of crystals and movement.”

The carousel is located in the southwestern part of the garden in direct proximity to other family-friendly installations such as a maze and the four-storied “play-tower” (cf. EAP-News f. 19 Sept 17). (eap)
