Ireland: Immersive Queue Line Experience For “The Viking Voyage“ Launched at Tayto Park

After Ireland’s Tayto Park opened the gates to its “The Viking Voyage“ water flume ride in 2017 (cf. EAP-News of 19 Jul 17), the rides wating area was  redesigned with new and interactive elements.

Taking up the viking theme of the ride, attractions design company Katapult created a walk-through experience based on the narrative by “Ireland’s Ancient East“. Guests are invited to step back in time to 1014, the year of the famous Battle of Clontarf. Realized as a walk-through mist hologram projection the great god “Odin“ greets the guests and asks them to fight alongside his Viking army. As guests progress through the queue line they become a “Viking“, from strength and agility games, sitting on a Viking throne, seeing themselves in an AR Viking helmet, and finally depart with a last rousing speech from Odin.

The queue line blends theming, technology and low-tech interactives. “The new level of theming will add so much more to the guest experience at our park. We are in a unique location and making the most of our local historical stories to set us apart. […],“ explains David Everard, project manager at Tayto Park. (eap)
