China: Merlin Entertainments Announces New LEGOLAND Sichuan

Today, Merlin Entertainments announced to build and operate a new LEGOLAND Resort in Sichuan Province in Western China. Merlin partnered with the development company Global Zhongjun Cultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd, which will fund the construction as well as the needed infrastructure and the following commercial developments. On the basis of a management contract agreement, Merlin will assist in the resort‘s development and will lead the park management. „[…] Having been active in China for over a decade, Merlin has gained critical insights into Chinese consumers and built a broad portfolio of Midway attractions within key cities. Leveraging this position, we’re delighted to be able to announce the development of a LEGOLAND Park in Sichuan Province together with a strong partner in Global Zhongjun. It is an exciting prospect and a significant milestone in the expansion of the LEGOLAND estate in China,“ said Nick Varney, CEO of Merlin Entertainments.

LEGOLAND Sichuan, which will include two LEGOLAND Hotels with a capacity of 500 rooms, is supposed to be open by 2023. The park will be located within the city of Meishan, approximately 60 kilometres south of Chengdu, and will have good traffic connections by road and a future metro station. (eap)
