Expansion Plans for Puy du Fou in China Take Shape

Already for some years now, the Puy du Fou inventors have had in mind to establish their successful show and park concept on an international level (cf. EAP news of 12 Mar 2019) – for this purpose, the company Puy du Fou International was founded. Its first production, the evening show “Kynren”, was launched in the UK in 2016 (cf. EAP 3/2016). A further nighttime spectacle, this time on Spanish soil, was successfully premiered in August 2019 in the city of Toledo. The opening of a Puy du Fou theme park at the same location is to follow until 2021 (cf. EAP news of 4 Sept 2019). The developers have also been keeping an eye on the Chinese market for some time – now expansion plans for China are becoming concrete.

Earlier this week, Puy du Fou President Nicolas de Villiers had the honor of accompanying French President Emmanuel Macron on an official trip to China in order to further promote the development plans for the first Puy du Fou nighttime show in the country. In this context, a strategic contract, including the premiere of a show modelled on the French “Cinéscénie” show or the Spanish “El Sueño de Toledo” show to take place in 2022 in Qinhuangdao (Hebei Province) near the Great Wall of China, was signed. The first phase of the project is expected to also include the construction of a themed hotel, a show restaurant as well as a village. The total investment volume for the entire project amounts to 230 million Euro. (eap)
