Germany: Europa-Park Reopens Today as Model Business for Safe Operations

Die Inhaberfamilie Mack freut sich auf den Saisonstart 2021.

To the great delight of theme park fans and families and as a beacon of hope for the region’s economy, which has been hit hard by the pandemic, Europa-Park in Rust, including its related theme hotels, reopens its doors today as a model business for safe operations during the pandemic. With an online ticket for the day as well as a valid negative test, proof of complete vaccination or an infection recovery card, guests can once again discover the 15 themed areas in Germany’s largest theme park. All attractions (outdoor & indoor) will be open, as will the restaurants with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. The safety and hygiene measures already introduced last year as a protection against possible infections will also apply this season and have been further extended in cooperation with the Freiburg University Hospital and aerosol researchers.

“The visitors must be safe and also feel that way, this has top priority,“ Roland Mack, owner of Europa-Park, emphasized during the press conference for the reopening. “But I would also like to say that we welcomed a total of around 2.5 million guests last year and there was not a single case of infection. We are very pleased that our reopening finally became possible, that we can welcome back guests to our park and also offer our employees secure jobs with a future again.“

The catalogue of measures to avoid virus infections is long. It includes the obligation to wear a medical mask in all indoor areas, in the attractions, in queuing areas and everywhere else where the minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained. However, these regulations do not dampen the visitors‘ joy, instead they are looking forward to the novelties in the park. In the “Austria“ theme area, guests can set off with the beloved “Madame Freudenreich“ character for a new VR experience on the “Alpenexpress“ roller coaster from June: In the virtual Coastiality world, passengers experience a turbulent soapbox race over hill and dale. In the Greek theme area, the Dreamtime Dome has the new 360-degree film experience “Snorri’s Adventure“ in store, which invites to an approx. eight-minute underwater journey with the popular Rulantica character of Snorri.

Speaking of Rulantica: While Europa-Park’s water adventure world is still waiting for permission to reopen, the final work on the new outdoor water playground “Svalgurok“ with ten slides and numerous water play equipment is underway. In addition, guests can expect a virtual underwater experience with the VR diving station “Snorri Snorkling VR“. You can read all about the new attractions in Rulantica in one of our upcoming magazine issues.

The virtual reality attraction “YULLBE“, which celebrated its opening last fall with sophisticated VR technology (see cover story in EAP 6/2020) and can also be experienced again from today, will be expanded with new content this year: among other things, a VR experience entitled “ARTiality“ and the space adventure “Moon to Mars“ are planned.
