(eap) Last week, Meyer Werft in Papenburg handed over its latest cruise ship, the “Disney Destiny”, to Disney Cruise Line – around two weeks earlier than originally scheduled. The vessel ranks among the shipyard’s most technically sophisticated and innovative newbuilds regarding entertainment facilities and represents another milestone in the long-standing partnership between the two companies.“We are delighted to deliver the Disney Destiny to Disney Cruise Line today. It is the latest milestone in our long-standing partnership with Disney Cruise Line. I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone involved,” said Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Werft, during the delivery ceremony. Together with Ralf Schmitz (Managing Director, Meyer Werft) and Joe Schott, President Disney Signature Experiences, Eikens signed the official delivery documents.
On board the Disney Destiny, families can look forward to a thematically designed cruise experience centered around mythical adventures featuring legendary heroes and villains from the Disney, Pixar and Marvel universes. One of the highlights is the exclusive live show “Disney Hercules”, which brings larger-than-life characters, vibrant music and witty humor from the Walt Disney Animation Studios to the stage. The ship’s leisure offering includes ten pools and water play areas, providing a variety of recreation options. Several themed dining venues invite guests to enjoy imaginative culinary experiences – among them the “Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King”, where singers and dancers perform a musical dinner show inspired by “The Lion King”. The Disney Destiny is aldready the fifth ship built by Meyer Werft for Disney Cruise Line. Following the Disney Dream (2010), Disney Fantasy (2012), Disney Wish (2022), Disney Treasure (2024), and the Disney Destiny another sister ship of the so-called Wish Class is currently under construction in Papenburg, scheduled for delivery in autumn 2027. The Disney Destiny is already the fifth ship that Meyer Werft has built for Disney Cruise Line. The first ships were the “Disney Dream” (2010) and the “Disney Fantasy” (2012). Following the “Disney Wish” (2022), the “Disney Treasure” (2024), and the Disney Destiny this year, another sister ship is currently being built in Papenburg, which belongs to the so-called “Wish” class and is scheduled for delivery in fall 2027. With the Disney Destiny, Meyer Werft’s order book now includes a total of eight cruise ships and two offshore converter platforms, extending into 2031. The first passengers are expected to embark on the new vessel in December. The maiden voyage of the “Disney Adventure” (see EAP News from October 17, 2024) – formerly the “Global Dream,” which the Disney Group took over from the insolvent MV Werften and Genting Hong Kong in 2022 (see EAP News from November 22, 2022) – has been postponed to March 2026, indicating a delay in the refurbishing work. ■
