(eap) With “Le Rêve de Louis XIV”, Puy du Fou has announced a new major production that visitors will be able to experience at the French theme park in the Vendée from 2027. The park invested a total of 33 million euros in the new show centred on the “Sun King” and his legendary celebration, which the team spent almost four years developing. Up to 13 performances are planned each day.
Nicolas de Villiers, Park President, explains: “Le Rêve de Louis XIV is conceived as a three-dimensional journey, welcoming audiences to the court of the Sun King and immersing them in the world of the Grand Siècle. It is probably the most ambitious show we have ever created.”

The 35-minute family show combines dance, art and intrigue at the court of Louis XIV. The story centres on a young woman named Madeleine, who dreams of dancing but promises her mother that she will earn her living working for the royal master chef Vatel. This takes her to Versailles, where Louis XIV is planning a lavish ball and has tasked Molière with finding the most elegant dancer in the kingdom. Meanwhile, the imprisoned finance minister Nicolas Fouquet is plotting revenge against the king: his mistress is to dance with the monarch and poison him in the process. Madeleine knows nothing of the conspiracy when an unexpected encounter changes her path… Other historical figures appearing alongside Molière and Vatel include the composer Lully and landscape architect Le Nôtre.
On the technical side, the production will use 40 specially developed autonomous robots, each moving three-tonne set pieces silently and with millimeter precision according to a programmed choreography. A total of 40 monumental stage settings and 800 square meters of LED screens will create scenery that continually transforms as the story unfolds. Behind and beside the stage, the robots will continuously prepare the next scenes. The backstage area required for this is seven times the size of the visible stage. A total of 30 performers will take part in the show, with 250 costumes used throughout. The theatre offers 1,800 seats, including 300 on the balcony.
