(eap) With a mix of new experiences and a touch of nostalgia, the Duinrell Adventure and Holiday Park near The Hague in the Netherlands is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. A popular classic at the adventure park has undergone a makeover – with the “Duinrell Express” (formerly “Minitrein”), guests have been able to enjoy a completely revamped family attraction since this summer, inviting them on a nostalgic journey into the world of trolls. The attraction, which was redesigned in collaboration with Metallbau Emmeln, has not only been equipped with a new train and track layout, but has also been completely modernized in terms of its design and decoration.

Up to 30 people can take a seat in the electrically driven train, which is equipped with a locomotive and four cars, to travel through a lovingly designed backdrop along a 130-meter-long track, most of which is now indoors. Inside the crystal mine, there is a lot of rocking, fishing, and tinkering going on – this is where the trolls live and work, brought to life in the form of cute animatronics. The original Duinrell trolls were restored for this purpose. The old train has also found a place in the crystal mine and has been incorporated into the scenery as a design element. Sound, light, and fog effects enhance the themed ride experience. “With the arrival of the Duinrell Express, we now have an attraction that appeals to a younger audience. We have retained the nostalgia of the Mini Train, but given it a new look,” says Philip van Zuylen van Nijevelt, Director of Duinrell. At the top of the Duinrell Express tunnel, a new viewing point has been created for visitors, from which they can enjoy a panoramic view of the park.

Several additions have also been made to the Duinrell holiday park this season. The accommodation options have been expanded with 60 new “O’Hara Comfort Duingalows” for six people each, 18 additional “Premium Plus Duingalows” (for five to eight guests), and new private sanitary facilities on the campsite. With more than 1.4 million visitors per year, Duinrell is one of the most popular leisure and holiday parks in the Netherlands. We say: Happy Birthday, Duinrell! ■
