Andreas Ebert to Lead Oldenburg’s Pool Operations
(eap) In Oldenburg (Germany), Andreas Ebert is set to take over as Managing Director of Bäderbetriebsgesellschaft Oldenburg (BBGO) and head of Bäderbetrieb Oldenburg (BBO). The 57-year-old has many years of experience in the municipal pool sector and is expected to steer the city’s pool operations onto a stable course in the long term. “With Andreas Ebert, we are gaining a highly competent leader who approaches tasks with clear focus and great determination. Especially in the current situation, where the BBGO operating company and the pool operations face major challenges, his ability to structure complex processes and bring people along is of great value,” explained Mayor Jürgen Krogmann.
Ebert emphasized: “The Oldenburg pool landscape stands for quality of life, health, and social interaction – values that I see as the foundation for a strong and future-oriented urban society. As Managing Director, I want to lead these facilities not only with economic success but also to further develop them as places of well-being, sustainability, and social participation.” Oldenburg, he said, combines tradition, innovation, and zest for life – a mix that is also reflected in the city’s pools. “My motivation is to harness these potentials, ensure operational efficiency, attract new target groups, and at the same time strengthen the ecological and social responsibility of the Oldenburg pools. I see this role as an opportunity to position the pool landscape, together with a committed team, as a modern, customer-oriented, and sustainable service provider,” said Ebert.
Since April 2016, Ebert has been the sole Managing Director of Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Leinefelde-Worbis GmbH in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld, where he oversees around 110 employees as well as all leisure, sports, and bathing facilities of the city. In addition to his role as Managing Director, he was appointed head of the municipal property management department in 2018, where he is responsible for construction projects, strategic consulting, and tourism development. At Burg Scharfenstein, he successfully established a whisky experience world and a hotel business. Since 2021, he has also been Managing Director of Hotelbetreibergesellschaft Leinefelde-Worbis mbH. In parallel, since 2012, he has been teaching as a lecturer in the Pool Management program at the IST University of Management in Düsseldorf.
Ebert began his career in the leisure and pool sector in 2003 as Center Manager at the sports and leisure center in his hometown of Aschersleben. After the facility was transferred to municipal ownership, he took over as Managing Director of the city-owned OptimAL GmbH in 2004. From 2008 to 2016, he worked for GMF GmbH & Co. KG, where he managed Soltau-Therme. As a member of the Lower Saxony Pools Working Group, he has already visited OLantis Huntebad on several occasions and is well acquainted with Oldenburg’s pool landscape.
Ebert is expected to assume his new position in Oldenburg by April 1, 2026, at the latest. Until then, Berthold Schmitt will remain in office as interim Managing Director, having held the position since mid-August of this year. The interim appointment became necessary after the former Managing Director was relieved of his duties in January 2025 due to public prosecutor’s investigations on charges of bribery. ■
