Art Installation “The Nemesis Machine – Stadt.Daten.Kunst" at HNF in Paderborn

(eap) From May 16 to November 19, visitors to the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum (HNF) in Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), can discover the special exhibition “The Nemesis Machine – City.Data.Art.”. It’s a spectacular art installation by London-based artist Stanza. 101 square meters alone covers the central installation, in total, including lateral elements and projections, it covers 800 square meters. The work has been assembled from thousands of circuit boards, screens, wireless sensors and scanning technologies to create a networked electronic world. The various “districts” are fed by information from facial recognition, local sensors, IoT networks, news feeds and social media from the real-world environment. In HNF, Stanza uses Internet data such as traffic data from Germany. All the data together create a colourful and flickering scenery.

“The real world becomes virtual, and the virtual becomes real again and revealed in the process. The whole work is a living and breathing artwork. The project focuses on the micro events of change, the vibrations and sounds of the environment using wireless sensor-based technologies,” the artist himself describes his work. ■
