After almost a year of negotiations, private equity firm BGH Capital, which was established in Melbourne in 2017, has now been able to close its takeover deal with cinema and theme park operator group Village Roadshow. At a total transaction value of the equivalent of EUR 364 million (AUD 585 million), or EUR 1.87 (AUD 3) per share, Village Roadshow will be transferred to BGH Capital’s portfolio, including the Village Roadshow Theme Parks division, which operates park facilities such as the Sea World Gold Coast, Warner Bros. Movie World and the Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast water park in Australia. The cinema and leisure industry in Australia is facing the economic crisis as in other countries around the world. For the end of October this year, Village Roadshow reported a net debt of just under EUR 194 million (AUD 311 million) and is expecting a debt of around EUR 237 million (AUD 380 million) for June 2021.
