Beijing Haichang Ocean Park on Track for 2027 Opening

A huge public aquarium complete with a resort hotel is taking shape in Beijing as part of the new Beijing Haichang Ocean Park.

(eap) The Beijing Haichang Ocean Park, currently under construction in Beijing’s Tongzhou district and set to feature a huge public aquarium as its centrepiece, is scheduled to open in 2027. Designed by California-based creative company Legacy Entertainment and its subsidiary The Aquarium Design Company, the leisure destination will cover an area of more than 15 hectares. In addition to the aquarium, which is set to rank among the largest facilities of its kind and is expected to welcome around four million visitors annually, the development will also include an eight-storey hotel.

The Tongzhou Cultural Tourism Group is also involved in the development of the new leisure destination in Beijing, which is being built not far from Universal Studios Beijing. Unlike Haichang Ocean Park in Shanghai, the Beijing property will comprise predominantly indoor areas in response to the region’s cold winter climate.

Meanwhile, progress on site is becoming increasingly visible: the aquarium building is now rising vertically and, once completed, will stand just under 24 metres tall. It will comprise three above-ground levels housing animal displays and exhibition areas, as well as two underground levels providing car parking and service facilities. ■
