China: Giant Movie Production City with Indoor Theme Park Now Open for Business in Qingdao

The course for the further development of China’s rapidly growing film industry is set: The Qingdao Movie Metropolis – a giant film production city, which is expected to host more than 500 national and international movie production companies within three years – has officially opened for business in the city of Qingdao/Shandong Province this past Saturday. Developed by Chinese Wanda Group, the approx. 6.5 billion EUR (nearly 50 billion RMB) complex currently features 30 high-tech film production studios; further 22 studio units are in planning.

In addition to the film studios, the Qingdao Movie Metropolis, which covers a total area of some 166 hectares, comprises several leisure offerings, including a large-scale shopping mall with an integrated indoor theme park and a water park. Visitors can enjoy attractions such as a suspended coaster, a vertical drop flume ride and a 3D interactive cinema. Furthermore, the movie city features a 2,000-seat theatre for film festivals, a cinema with 30 screens, a business center, four high-star hotels and resorts, a hospital, an international school as well as a yacht marina and club.
