Conference Hall at Germany’s Zoo Leipzig: Second Construction Phase Underway

The second construction phase on the conference hall at Zoo Leipzig was kicked off late this past June with a special cornerstone laying ceremony. Together with Leipzig’s Mayor Burkhard Jung and architect Gerd Heise, the zoo’s director Dr. Jörg Junhold (in the center of the photo) conducted a symbolic act positioning a stucco replica of a giraffe’s leg at its traditionally historic home in the zoo. Once a true eyecatcher featuring stylish décor, the arched stage frame is as much in need of renovation as the Große Saal and Weiße Saal halls. 17.7 million Euros are being invested into the complex to transform it in its entirety by 2015 into a modern-day, multifunctional conference and event center located in the heart of the city. The first construction phase already overhauled the historic Bachsaal hall along with the Händelsaal and Telemannsaal halls. (eap)
