(eap) A new themed area based on the Pixar animated film “Monsters, Inc.” is being developed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The area’s main attraction is set to become the first suspended coaster and, as well as the first roller coaster with a vertical lift in a Disney park. The ride is designed to let guests experience what it feels like to race through the doors of the Monsters, Inc. Factory – just like “Mike” and “Sulley” in the film.

Suspended Coaster Visual © Disney “We have never done anything like this before,” Disney Imagineer Michael Hundgen said about the new attraction at the SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas, early last year. “It’s Disney’s first suspended coaster, it’s our first vertical lift. We’re designing this experience to be as memorable and as fun as the film itself.”

The first themed land inspired by Monsters, Inc. will be named “Monstropolis”. At the heart of the theming is the so-called “H.U.M.A.N. Day” – short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice”. The citywide celebration marks the moment when the monster world officially welcomes humans for the first time.

The story takes place after the events of the film: Mike and Sulley have discovered that human laughter generates significantly more energy than screams. This not only changes Monstropolis’ energy supply, but also the monsters’ view of humans. Visitors will be able to walk through the city and discover bustling streets, familiar locations such as Harryhausen’s restaurant and the Glob Theater, as well as the new Department of Human Relations, which will help bring monsters and humans together. ■
