Elfercoaster Expands Year-Round Offering in Austria’s Stubai Valley

(eap) The new “ELFERCOASTER” has recently opened at the upper station of Elferbahnen in Neustift in Tyrol’s Stubai Valley. The attraction is an Alpine Coaster 2.0 supplied by German manufacturer Wiegand. The approximately 1.3-kilometer-long track comprises around one kilometer of downhill section and a roughly 350-meter-long uphill lift. During the descent, riders can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h.

The Elfercoaster features three helices and numerous banked curves. A total of 43 sleds are available, each accommodating up to two riders. One of the key features of the Alpine Coaster is its all-weather capability, enabling largely weather-independent and therefore year-round operation.

For Mario Gerber, Tyrol’s Provincial Councillor for Tourism and Economic Affairs, the project is an example of the state’s tourism development strategy: “With the Elfercoaster, a modern leisure attraction is being created that consistently advances our strategy of high-quality year-round tourism in Tyrol. Projects like this come about when the region, businesses, tourism stakeholders and policymakers all pull together – and the Stubai Valley is demonstrating this impressively.”

Adrian Siller, Chairman of TVB Stubai Tirol and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Elferbahnen, likewise emphasizes the strategic importance of the investment: “The Elfercoaster is an investment in the future of the Stubai Valley. We are convinced that investing in projects like this will not only further develop the Elfer but also strengthen the entire valley as a holiday destination. High-quality visitor experiences like these are crucial for increasing the length of stay, attracting new target groups and generating additional value for accommodation providers, restaurants and many other businesses throughout the Stubai Valley.”

Construction of the attraction began at the end of August 2025 and was completed on schedule in July 2026. Wiegand recently completed further Alpine Coaster 2.0 installations at Nefes Orman İstanbul in Turkey and in Chinorkent in Uzbekistan. Additional projects are currently under development in Shymbulak (Kazakhstan), Prague (Czech Republic), Puy St. Vincent (France) and Willingen in the German state of Hesse. ■
