Freiburg Autumn Fair 2026 Opens: Here Are the Highlights

With more than 100 rides, game stalls and food and beverage stands, the Freiburger Herbstmess’ 2026 offers funfair entertainment for the whole family.

(eap) Since last Friday, October 16, the grounds of Messe Freiburg in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, have once again been buzzing with rides, entertainment and culinary delights: This year’s Freiburger Herbstmess’ (Freiburg Autumn Fair) officially opened its doors, offering eleven days of funfair entertainment through October 26. More than 100 rides, game stalls and food and beverage stands provide plenty of variety for visitors of all ages.

In addition to the regular fairground attractions, several special event days are on the programme: Today is “Schlagertag”, featuring a DJ playing German Schlager music and further entertainment at the market area. Tomorrow is “Children’s and Family Day”, with rides available at half price. Wednesday will see the debut of “Schlemmertag” (Food Lovers’ Day), offering discounts on food and drinks, while Thursday’s “Gaming Day” will feature reduced prices at the game stalls. The fair will conclude with a fireworks display on Monday, October 26.

A total of 21 rides are featured at this year’s event. Among the highlights is “Heidi – The Coaster”, a Bavarian-themed spinning coaster operated by showman Ewald Schneider. Manufactured in 2019 by French ride manufacturer Reverchon, the roller coaster promises thrilling rides in rotating cars. Younger visitors can enjoy attractions such as the “Racing Coaster”, operated by Gisela Hartmann und Sohn.

At “Krumm & Schief Bau”, operated by Hartmann & Söhne, visitors can explore what is perhaps the world’s funniest construction site. Manufactured in 2010 by Dietz Fahrzeugbau, the multi-level walk-through attraction features an obstacle course with various challenges, a glass and mirror maze, a spiral slide and much more. Those looking for a spooky experience can visit the “Spuk” ghost train, operated by Molengraft-Sipkema B.V. and manufactured by Italian company Barbisan. Two classic funfair attractions are also part of the line-up: the “Petersburger Schlittenfahrt”, a traditional Himalaya-style ride operated by Nadine Radünz, and the “White Star” Ferris wheel operated by Christian Göbel.

The Autumn Fair also offers a wide range of culinary treats, with numerous stalls serving savoury dishes, sweet treats and beverages. New additions this year include raclette and Swabian specialities. At the centrally located market area, visitors can browse textiles, handicrafts and a variety of other goods. The beer tent provides a lively atmosphere and a place to socialise. ■
