Germany: All Year Round Surfing under a Glass Roof

Germany: All Year Round Surfing under a Glass Roof

A new unique artificial surfing facility is to be built under the name of Surf Era in Fürstenwalde/Spree in Brandenburg, about a one hour‘s drive southeast of Berlin. The master plan for the new facility includes a hybrid concept that will combine surfing facilities and a water theme park under one roof – in this case even a glass roof. The new building is planned for an area of around 52,000 square metres. The plot of land includes a brownfield site and the existing space of the Schwapp municipal leisure pool, the adventure area of which is planned to be integrated in Surf Era. In addition to an artificial surfing facility by Endless Surf, a total of 13 water attractions are to be built, all of which will be supplied by WhiteWater West. In addition to numerous slides, the new leisure destination will also feature a lazyriver, a white river, an interactive water playground and much more. The special feature of the Surf Era will be the retractable roof structure to offer visitors bathing and surfing fun 365 days a year.

According to Eirik Randow, founder and CEO of Surf Era, an opening date “depends on many external factors“. He adds: “What we can already say at this point is that the process of obtaining building permits will take twelve to 18 months, during which time the detailed planning will take place. From the time of the ground-breaking ceremony, we need about 18 to 24 months for the actual construction and an extensive test phase. Calculatory deviations are due to the time of year when construction starts.“ According to the latest information, the investment sum amounts to around 100 million euros. (eap)
