Germany: E-Kart Track at Nettebad Osnabrück Now Under Construction

At the end of March, the construction works for a new e-kart track which will be built adjacent to the Nettebad swimming pool complex, located in the city of Osnabrück, have started. The 2,400-square meter facility is expected to open in spring 2017. “With the e-kart track we continue to upgrade the Nettebad leisure location,” explains Manfred Hülsmann, CEO of Stadtwerke Osnabrück, the swimming pool’s operator. Visited by 745,000 guests annually (cf. EAP News from February 22, 2016), Nettebad is – according to Hülsmann – one of Germany’s “Top 5” swimming pool facilities. By introducing the new offer, Stadtwerke Osnabrück intend to extend the visitors’ length of stay, thus increasing revenues.

“The kart track will be 430 meters long and be spread over two levels. It can accommodate up to 14 e-karts at the same time, which will run the track soundlessly and odorlessly at speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour”, says Nettebad’s director Wolfgang Hermle. The Sundern, Germany-based company Rimo will deliver a total of 30 electric karts for the facility. The kart center’s roof will be equipped with 320 photovoltaic modules covering an area of 540 square meters. “The roof installation will generate 70 percent of the electricity needed to operate the karts,” Hülsmann states. Besides the kart track, the new center will also feature a 700 square meter area that includes gastronomy offerings and conference rooms for up to 150 persons. The investment volume for the entire project amounts to about three million euros. (eap)
