Germany: Odysseum Cologne Closes for Renovation Works

From February 5th this year, the Odysseum in Cologne will temporarily be closed for visitors due to renovation works in its two theme worlds, with its re-opening scheduled for February 17th. In its “Life” theme area, which is focused on the evolution of humans, our senses and perception, a new ropes course designed as a liana garden featuring a climbing wall will be installed directly at the entrance. Another novelty to this area will be the “Ames Room” (named after Adelbert Ames): a walkable exhibit, which the visitor – looking through a window – initially recognizes as a normal-proportioned room. After entering the room, the visitor is subject to an optical illusion caused by the distortion of the room. The second theme area, entitled “Earth”, highlights the fields of mechanics, electrics and mathematics. Among the new exhibits planned for this section is a block and tackle system, whose operation requires physical effort of the visitors.

“We are looking forward to this change and to surprise our guests with a renovated offer so they are able to explore the Odysseum with fresh curiosity. Our venue continues focusing on participation, hands-on programmes and discovering and with the new exhibits we follow our approach to mediate knowledge with fun so that it lasts,” said Gonca Mucuk, Director of Odysseum Cologne.
