After seven years of planning and development the adventure museum “Westfälische Salzwelten” located in Bad Sassendorf (North Rhine-Westphalia) opened at the beginning of this year. The 2.8 million Euro project offers its visitors the possibility to gather information about the cultural history of salt production, the daily importance and fields of application of salt as well as its healthy benefits. The museum is open for visitors the whole year round and is especially targeted to families with children. Over a period of several centuries producing and trading with salt played a fundamental role in Bad Sassendorf’s history. Nowadays a state-recognized spa town, the city of Bad Sassendorf offers a perfect location for the museum. The 955 square meter area includes two exhibition areas which present the diversity of these important branches of industry. To ensure sustainable learning, the exhibition appeals to all the visitor’s senses. The adventure museum has been created by the German creative agency studio klv. “It was exciting to develop an adventure exhibition with regional relevance that also attracts visitors from other regions”, studio klv CEO Bernhard Kehrer comments. In addition to the permanent exhibition the one hour-circular walk “Sassendorfer Salzspuren” takes guests to historical and currently relevant locations with reference to salt. (eap)
