(eap) Germany’s Klimahaus Bremerhaven edutainment centre is expanding its educational offering in the exhibition area “The Journey” with an audio guide that accompanies visitors on a 50-minute tour. Visitors can now embark on an equally entertaining and informative “audio walk” along the eighth degree of longitude. They are accompanied by the voices of marine biologist Antje Boetius and physician and science journalist Eckart von Hirschhausen. The basis is a conversation between the two experts held on site during their visit in 2025.
The audio guide combines personal anecdotes with scientific background information and provides deeper context to selected exhibition content. For instance, it explains that sharks are evolutionarily much older than trees, and why trees in tropical rainforests develop above-ground supporting roots. The additional audio content complements the existing information panels at the individual “travel stations” but does not replace them. The guide is available at the ticket desk for a fee of three euros.
Since its opening in 2009 (see EAP 6/2009), Klimahaus has recorded more than seven million guests, making it one of the most visited combined leisure and knowledge centers in Germany. Visitors pass through various climate zones – from the desert to Antarctica – experiencing the temperatures, scents and soundscapes of different regions. In addition to “The Journey”, the offer comprises three further permanent exhibitions: “Weather Extremes”, a scientifically based experiential area on extreme weather events and their consequences; “Perspectives” on the historical development of climate change; and the interactive “World Future Lab” area, which is aimed at future “world savers”. ■
