(eap) With today’s groundbreaking ceremony for the “WipfelErlebnisWelt” announced last year in Bad Harzburg, Germany (see EAP News 13 May 2025), the experience destination at Burgberg is further advancing its development. The excursion destination, best known for the Baumwipfelpfad Harz and the BaumSchwebeBahn Harz, attracts around 200,000 visitors annually, who come here to experience nature, physical activity and adventure.

Plans include custom-designed climbing and net elements, extensive net tunnels and spiderweb structures, as well as – according to the operator – a free-fall experience unique in Germany. The attraction will directly connect to the existing treetop walk and replace the former “SKYROPE” high ropes course. In addition, a café, new relaxation areas and sanitary facilities will be created.

The project will also integrate new stations of an expanded climate education trail featuring audiovisual and digital elements. A marble run at elevated height as well as a ground-level play area designed as an adventure castle (realised by Künstlerische Holzgestaltung Bergmann) will complement the offering. The design of the play area once again follows the storyline around the Burgberg. The aim is to increase visitors’ length of stay at the site through the new attractions.

The project developer is BaumSchwebeBahn Bad Harzburg GmbH, in which HarzVenture GmbH and the Bad Harzburg City Spa, Tourism, and Economic enterprises hold stakes. The total investment volume amounts to 4.5 million euros, representing the largest single investment by the operating company to date. The project is supported with 750,000 euros from the GRW funding programme by the German federal government and the state of Lower Saxony. The WipfelErlebnisWelt is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2027. ■
