Hirschbachbad Aalen Opens Outdoor Pool Area
(eap) Following the opening of the indoor pool at the new Hirschbachbad combined pool in Aalen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) at the end of November last year (see EAP News of 2 December 2025), the outdoor area has now also been put into operation. This marks the return of outdoor swimming to the Hirschbach valley for the first time since summer 2020.
“With the opening of the outdoor pool area, the new Hirschbachbad can now be experienced in its entirety. We are very pleased to be able to offer citizens a modern outdoor pool facility in the Hirschbach valley again after four years,” says Managing Director of Stadtwerke Aalen Michael Schäfer.

The new outdoor pool area offers a wide range of opportunities for swimming, playing and relaxing across a spacious outdoor site. At the center of the facility is a new 50-metre swimming pool with eight lanes and competition category C, aimed particularly at sporty swimmers. The 500-square-meter non-swimmer adventure pool was designed primarily for families and recreational swimmers. It is equipped with floor bubblers, a water mushroom and an open stainless-steel slide by Aquarena.
For the youngest guests, a toddlers’ paddling pool with a small boat channel, water cannon, hand pump and toddler slide offers various play opportunities. The area is complemented by a separate water playground featuring, among other things, floor jets, water tunnels and natural stone boulders.

Outside the water areas, there is also a playground with swings, climbing frames, spring riders and a sandpit, as well as sunbathing and recreation areas. In total, the sunbathing lawn covers around 6,600 square meters, complemented by further seating and lounging areas covering an additional 1,900 square meters. The wider offer also includes table tennis tables, free guest Wi-Fi and the option for outdoor pool guests to use the tube slide at the Hirschbachbad indoor leisure pool, which was also supplied by Aquarena.
The design for the combined pool was created by Stuttgart-based architects 4a Architekten. Rossaro Bauunternehmung from Aalen was responsible for designing the outdoor area, including the construction of precast concrete elements such as seating steps, stairways, ramps and pathways in the outdoor pool area. AO Landschaftsarchitekten from Mainz was responsible for planning the outdoor area, while Wassertechnik Wertheim supplied the technology for the swimming pools as well as the play equipment in the adventure pool. ■
