Immersive Plant Journey at Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

(eap) The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano, South Tyrol, are presenting visitors with “Grotto 2.0” an immersive media installation that takes them on a journey through the evolution of plant life. The new edutainment experience is located in the “Forests of the World” area of the twelve-hectare botanical garden.

Spread across grounds with an elevation difference of around 100 metres are more than 80 garden landscapes, divided into four botanical areas. In addition to the diverse plant life, visitors can enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and the city of Merano.
“Grotto 2.0” combines large-scale projections, sound, storytelling and a central spherical media element. The approximately twelve-minute experience is presented in German, Italian and English, making it accessible to an international audience. Austrian company Attraktion! was responsible for the design and realisation of the experience, including the production of the media content.
The company, headed by Markus Beyr, also operates its own digital experience venue, IMMERSIUM:Wien, in the Austrian capital, which features a changing programme (cf. EAP 1/2024). Currently on offer are the immersive exhibition “Planet Wildlife” as well as various immersive dinner formats. ■
