For the first time, this interactive themed ride centred around the “SpongeBob” character IP from Nickelodeon (Paramount) is now available outside the United States. The ride concept made its debut last year at the Circus Circus Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas (also read our cover story in EAP issue 2/2024).

The six-scene attraction combines classic dark ride elements with interactive media projections and physical targets. Riders are equipped with wand-like “zappers”, attached to their seats, and journey through Mr Krabs’ chaotic carnival, where SpongeBob and his friends misappropriate Krabby Patty ingredients for fairground games...

The guests assist the characters by aiming at targets to keep villain Plankton in check. Special effects integrated into the interactive scenes, physical “Easter Eggs” and a final award ceremony based on the points riders have scored in the scenes are designed to provide varied fun for the whole family.

In the Land of Legends, the attraction was once again realised as part of a cooperation between Sally Dark Rides, Alterface and ETF Ride Systems. While the US company Sally was responsible for the design, scenography and project coordination, the Belgian company Alterface integrated the interactive shooting system including show control. ETF Ride Systems from the Netherlands supplied the trackless “Mystic Mover” ride system. ■
