Lagoons Adventure Pool in Willingen Celebrates Reopening
Vor wenigen Wochen fand im Lagunen-Erlebnisbad Willingen bereits ein Testbetrieb statt - heute feiert das Bad seine offizielle Wiedereröffnung.

(eap) After the Lagunen-Erlebnisbad (“Lagoons Adventure Pool”) in Willingen, Germany, was closed in 2020 for extensive construction works, the subtropically themed water landscape today celebrates its reopening – as a new-build facility offering a mix of natural brine pools, a children’s area, water slides and a spacious sauna landscape.
As a modern leisure and health pool, into which an investment volume of around 50 million euros has been channelled – of which the State of Hesse contributed approximately 22.8 million euros – the newly constructed pool is intended to appeal to both local residents and tourists and, in future, welcome up to 230,000 guests annually. Complementing the textile-free sauna area built over two levels, as well as the associated sauna garden (also largely redesigned), an entirely new textile sauna area was created.
“The construction of the new pool was a very great effort for our municipality, but one that will certainly be worthwhile in view of the importance of this project for the future development of our community as a business and residential location. With regard to promoting the tourism industry, which is important for all of us, we now have a pool that will significantly strengthen the tourism businesses in our municipality and also in the surrounding region on the supply side in an increasingly globalised competitive environment, and will thus ensure higher visitor numbers. Many other economic sectors, such as retail and crafts, will benefit from this,” said Thomas Trachte, Mayor of Willingen. The small town in the north-eastern part of the Rothaar Mountains is popular among both locals and tourists as a winter sports destination, among other things, and also offers a wide-ranging leisure programme throughout the year, which, with the reopening of the Lagoons Adventure Pool, now regains a central component.
Tourism Director Norbert Lopatta commented: “What has been created here elevates Willingen as a tourism destination to a new level. This was only possible through cooperation, courage and determination. We can be proud of this pool.”
