Les Machines de L`ile

Les Machines de l’île (The Machines of the Isle) can be seen on the Isle of Nantes (France), on a former shipyard ground. Visitors cannot only see the huge and detailed creatures built of wood and steel within a guided tour through the gallery, but also have a look at them from their inside and even operate them by themselves. Hitherto existing artworks are among others: „Le Grand Eléphant“ (The Great Elephant) and “L’Arbre aux Hérons” (The Heron Tree). The elephant (50 tons) even takes the visitors on his back to go for a walk around the gallery. Opening dates and hours: 1 Sept, 2009 – 23 Oct, Tue-Fri, from 10 am -6 pm, Sat-Sun, from 10am-7pm.
A complete article about these fascinating machines will be published in our next issue (5/2009). (eap)
