Liseberg Opens Family Attraction Stormvåg

Kristina Karlsson, Port Officer at the Port of Gothenburg, inaugurated “Stormvåg” in maritime tradition by breaking a bottle.

(eap) The Swedish amusement park Liseberg officially opened its new family attraction “Stormvåg” (“Storm Wave”) yesterday, 14 May. The Wild Swing XL from German manufacturer ART Engineering has been given a maritime theme inspired by the city harbour and Sweden’s west coast. The design concept was developed by Alex Korting together with Liseberg’s Creative Director David Schofield.

In keeping with the design, representatives of the Port of Gothenburg were involved in the opening ceremony. In a nod to the traditional christening of ships, Liseberg’s newest attraction was inaugurated by ceremonially breaking a bottle. In true Liseberg style, the bottle was made entirely of sugar, allowing the celebration to take place without broken glass.

“We are so happy that Stormvåg has finally arrived at Liseberg. We started back in September, and hearing the joyful screams from guests today is incredibly rewarding. In many ways, it feels like Stormvåg has always belonged here and is a perfect complement to the rest of the park,” emphasises Emelie Spelmans, Project Lead at Liseberg.

Stormvåg is designed as an attraction for the whole family and is intended to create a link between the children’s area “Kaninlandet” and Liseberg’s more intense thrill rides. The 14.5-metre-high ride accommodates 24 passengers per cycle – twelve on each side – and performs several swings without fully turning upside down. Children may ride from 120 centimetres in height and six years of age; when accompanied by an adult, the ride is open to children from 95 centimetres and four years of age.

The first Wild Swing XL recently went into operation at the Belgian theme park Bellewaerde – read more in our current EAP issue 3/2026. ■
