(eap) The US-based Lost Island Themepark in Waterloo, Iowa, has announced the opening of a new roller coaster for summer 2027. The ride is set to be the world’s first “Wild Moose” family coaster by Rocky Mountain Coasters (also: Rocky Mountain Construction, RMC). With the new coaster, the Hayden, Idaho-based company is introducing a family-friendly roller coaster concept for the first time, which is supposed to be accessible to children from a height of just 39 inches (one meter).

The custom version developed for Lost Island will open under the name “Forbidden Lair” and feature two open track ends with spike elements, allowing the track to be traversed both forwards and backwards. At the beginning of the ride, the train will first be pulled up a 79-foot (24-meter) spike element. It will then pass through the station before navigating several turns and airtime hills along the 910-foot (277-meter) track at a top speed of more than 38 mph (approx. 60 km/h). In total, riders can expect eleven moments of airtime.

With “Forbidden Lair”, Lost Island will expand its coaster portfolio to five roller coasters. Just last year, the park opened “Fire Runner”, a single-rail coaster by RMC. Opened in 2022, Lost Island Themepark is the second gate of Lost Island Waterpark and features numerous attractions and experiences across its five themed areas: “Mura” (Fire), “Awa” (Water), “Udara” (Air), “Yuta” (Earth) and “Tamariki” (Spirit). ■
