(eap) Massanutten Resort in the US state of Virginia has opened “Mountain Mayhem”, a new year-round monorail coaster. The attraction was supplied by French manufacturer MND and marks the company’s first installation of a two-seater version of its “Fun Coaster” model in the United States.

The approximately one-kilometre-long track includes two 360-degree spirals, among other elements. The vehicles reach speeds of up to 40 km/h, while riders can regulate their speed during the descent using a hand brake. The two-seater vehicles feature an elevated seating position as well as seat belts, bumpers and an automatic braking system. Each vehicle can carry a maximum combined weight of 158 kilograms. Children aged four and above may use the attraction when accompanied, while unaccompanied riders must be at least 13 years old.

“[…] We are delighted to have delivered this monorail coaster for Massanutten Resort. […] Design, comfort and safety are integral parts of the attraction,” said Xavier Gallot-Lavallée, President of MND. According to the manufacturer, the project represents an important step in the US market.

Massanutten Resort covers approximately 24 square kilometres in the Shenandoah Valley and operates as a year-round destination. Its facilities include an indoor and outdoor water park, a mountain bike park and a Family Adventure Park, while seasonal activities include skiing, snow tubing and golf. The resort is located around two hours from Washington, D.C. ■
