(eap) After about four years of construction, the time is almost here: Hamburg’s Miniatur Wunderland is planning to officially open its new “Rainforest” section on 9 November. Covering an area of 170 square metres, the miniature world features landscapes inspired by the Amazon rainforest, the Andes and the Atacama Desert. For what has been the most elaborate and expensive section of the entire model railway exhibition to date, the Miniatur Wunderland team once again collaborated with the Martínez family of model makers from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Visitors can look forward to numerous fascinating discoveries in the new Rainforest section. Highlights include a replica of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in Peru and the Iguazú Falls on the border between Argentina and Brazil. The intricately modelled Andes stretch across two floors, offering visitors on the upper level a panoramic view of the entire Rainforest exhibition area.
The new section will feature more than 30,000 handcrafted miniature trees, 13,000 figures, over 850 metres of railway track and 90 trains comprising more than 150 locomotives and 1,000 carriages. Lighting projections will further enhance the atmosphere of the new themed area. Those wishing to follow the final preparations ahead of the opening can gain behind-the-scenes insights by watching the “Regenwald-Endspurt” (Rainforest Final Sprint) video series on Miniatur Wunderland’s YouTube channel. ■
