Netherlands: Floriade 2022 to Focus on “Green“ Mobility with Cable Car Installation

The international horticultural exposition Floriade Expo 2022 is scheduled to take place in Almere from April 14th until October 9th, 2022 under the motto of “Growing Green Cities“ (cf. EAP news f. 29 Oct 2019). In correspondance with this motto, the exposition will also present visitors with “green“ mobility solutions such as a cable car supplied by Dopplmayr/Garaventa, which will connect the northern and southern areas of Floriade. During the five minute-long ride in a height of 35 metres visitors will be able to enjoy a splendid view of the large outdoor area.

Sven Stimac, Chief Operating Officer of Floriade, comments: “A cable car will offer our guests an experience that will provide an additional option, next to the planned pedestrian crossing over the A6 highway, to qickly travel across the 60 hectares of Floriade park while at the same time having the opportunity to gently enjoy the landscaping, which will be clearly visible from above. […]“ He adds: “In terms of sustainable mobility solutions, the cable car seamlessly connects to the theme of Floriade ‘Growing Green Cities‘. It needs limited electricity and offers high efficiency as regards infrastructure. […]“ The 850 metre-long cable car will be barrier free and will operate with a maximun capacity of 2,250 people per hour and direction. Construction works started in November 2020 and are scheduled to be finished in June 2021 for the Floriade preview opening. (eap)
