Netherlands: Toverland Surprises with Plans on Re-Theming “Expedition Zork” White Water Ride

Dutch theme park Toverland, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, announced today that “Expedition Zork” – a white water ride by Mack Rides that opened in 2004 located in the “Wunderwald” (former “Magic Forest”) area – will receive a re-theming. “The quality standard of Toverland is getting higher and higher and we think it is very important to include our older themed areas. Also, in this special time we want to continue to invest and at the moment the renewal of Expedition Zork fits best in our strategy,” explains Jean Gelissen Jr, Managing Director of Toverland. Peter van Holsteijn, Senior Designer, gives a little insight into the new theming: “In the new story of Expedition Zork we have combined all existing elements of the Wunderwald. A Tyrolean village, an eccentric inventor, a whitewater ride and an unknown mountain monster.”

The area around the water will be even more integrated into the attraction and invite visitors to explore and linger. This will include the integration of numerous pine trees and rockwork into the surrounding area. The queuing area in both the inner and outer sections is also to be designed interactively, immersing guests in the story surrounding the main character “Maximus Müller”. For visitors looking to cool off outside the ride in the summer, a spacious splash zone will be created in the area of the 15-meter drop, where the tree log-shaped boats splash into the water.

Another new addition will be “Maximus’ Wunderball”, two interactive wooden marble runs, which have a total length of 125 meters, which guests can experience in the outdoor area of the whitewater ride. Renovation work at Toverland is scheduled to begin on 10 January, with the opening of the re-designed area aimed for spring 2022. (eap)
