New Alpine Coaster 2.0 to Open in Bodenmais

(eap) On 6 July 2025, a new year-round attraction will be launched in the Lower Bavarian town of Bodenmais: the “Silberberg Coaster”, a modern all-weather toboggan run of the “Alpine Coaster 2.0” type by Wiegand (see also our feature on the manufacturer’s 50th anniversary in EAP 3/2025), will expand the leisure offerings at the popular Silberberg adventure mountain.

© Bodenmais Tourismus “This is an experience like riding a roller coaster – right in the middle of the Bavarian Forest,” said Thomas Hüblein, Managing Director of the Silberbergbahn. “And yet our guests glide almost silently through nature.” The new installation allows speeds of up to 40 km/h, featuring treetop sections, two spirals, an approx. 800-meter downhill track and a 450-meter ascent.

Special attention was paid to environmental compatibility, with no healthy trees needing to be felled for the project. “We carried out the construction with the utmost respect for the environment and the landscape,” Hüblein continued. “This way, visitors can perfectly combine the enjoyment of nature and speed.” The new coaster does not replace the existing summer toboggan run but rather complements it. Technical Manager Sebastian Zistler emphasized: “Our old track stays – the coaster is the icing on the cake for those looking for something special.” Another unique feature is the inclusion of the attraction in the “aktivCARD Bayerischer Wald”, making the ride free of charge for many guests – a novelty in this segment of premium experiences.

© Bodenmais Tourismus The project also plays a strategic role in tourism development. Tobias Wolf, Head of Tourism in Bodenmais, commented: “We focus on sustainable experiences that appeal to both families and adventurers. The coaster brings new momentum to the region – and will undoubtedly become one of our key visitor magnets.” ■
