(eap) Tomorrow, Kynren – The Storied Lands will officially open its gates. Located in Bishop Auckland in the north-east English county of Durham, the new live-show theme park transforms a site spanning 150-acre (more than 60 hectares) into an immersive world where history, myths and legends are brought to life through live performances and elaborate storytelling. Visitors can experience five major productions staged in purpose-built sets.

The programme ranges from bird and equestrian shows to historical productions and walk-through experiences. Developed by curator Jimmy Robinson, the bird show “The Lost Feather” features sea eagles, vultures, African crowned cranes, macaws and owls, among other species. In the “Land of the Vikings”, visitors can first explore a recreated Norse settlement before watching an action-packed live show featuring fire and battle scenes. Stunt riding and equestrian artistry take centre stage in “The Trusty Steed”, while “Legend of the Wear” retells the tale of the Lambton Worm on a large-scale lakeside stage. In the “Victorian Imaginariums” garden maze, designed as a walk-through experience, visitors also encounter extraordinary characters from the Victorian era.
The new park has been developed by the team behind the evening show “Kynren – An Epic Tale of England”, which premiered in Bishop Auckland in 2016 (see EAP 3/2016). Both the evening show and Kynren – The Storied Lands will run from tomorrow until 12 September this year.

“Saturday marks far more than the opening of a new attraction. It represents years of ambition, creativity and dedication from an extraordinary team who believed we could create something completely new for the UK. For the past ten years we’ve welcomed audiences to Kynren – An Epic Tale of England, and now we’re opening an experience that allows visitors to spend an entire day immersed in spectacular live entertainment,” emphasizes Anna Warnecke, CEO of Kynren “We can’t wait to welcome our very first guests and begin this exciting new chapter.”
Creative Director Charlotte Boissinot is also eagerly anticipating the opening: “For years these shows have existed only in sketches, storyboards, rehearsals and the imagination of our creative team. To finally stand in each arena and see audiences experiencing them exactly as we imagined is incredibly emotional. Every costume, every soundtrack, every set and every performance has been crafted to transport visitors into another story. Opening day is the moment those stories truly come to life.” ■
